Lochaber Yacht Club

LYC was established in 1954 and our members have been actively sailing on Loch Linnhe ever since. We are an established RYA sailing establishment and offer come and try sessions for anyone interested in learning to sail. We are a family sailing club and do everything we can to get young people involved in sailing.

We have a number of social events throughout the year including a sailing regatta, sailing courses and weekly Club Nights. We have an annual Prize Giving and Fitting Out Supper. See our events page for more.

The Club supports the Soling yacht – a former One Design Olympic boat. There are five active Solings racing and sailing on the loch most weeks during the summer. If you would like to come try sailing a Soling, please getting touch, or better still, come down on a Thursday evening.

Clubhouse Facilities

After a disastrous fire in November 2006 a new club house was built. It was formally opened by Charles Kennedy MP in March 2008 on the occasion of the first dinghy race of the season the Frostbite. It is a modern building on the shore of Loch Linnhe. We have good changing rooms including facilities for the disabled, a large galley, and a large general use area complete with log-stove and good views across the loch. Also there is an elevated race office which makes for easy management and supervision of activities an the water. The club house is used for social functions as well as sailing events. By arrangement from time to time visitors use our facilities for a meeting or functions.

Adjacent to the club house there are 3 securely fenced dinghy parks and a car parking area – all built by the club. Also the 5m wide slipway is central and at an easy gradient. Dinghies can be launched at all states of the tide usually at right angles to the prevailing wind. Keelboats on trailers can be launched when there is half tide or more.

Our clubhouse is maintained to a very high standard and the committee would like members to help them look after our fabulous facilities.

Showers, toilets and changing rooms

If you use the showers after swimming or dinghy sailing, please mop up all the puddles of sea water from the floor. Leaving sea-water all over the floor causes the clubhouse to stink and is not pleasant for other club members – it only takes a couple of minutes to mop up. Leaving puddles on the floor causes mould to form too. Mops and buckets are provided !

Visitor Moorings

LYC has 2 visitor moorings which can be rented for daily or weekly rate. Contact our Secretary on secretary@lochaber-yacht-club.co.uk or 07881561970 if you would like to book one or check availability.

Clubhouse Stove

LYC has a large log-burning stove which provides a high level of comfort after sailing. It burns up a lot of wood. If you know of a source of firewood, please let a committee member know about this so we can make arrangements to collect it and season it for heating the clubhouse.
